Aspiring Solicitors - Culture Event

We’re extremely excited to be collaborating with Aspiring Solicitors to launch AS Culture 2019, an event to celebrate the cultural diversity that exists in the legal profession and to discuss the steps necessary to strengthen inclusion for those from underrepresented ethnic and religious backgrounds.

  • be an Aspiring Solicitors member;
  • have an interest to increase awareness and understanding of ethnic and religious differences in the legal profession;

  • be on track to secure or have secured a 2:1 at degree level (excluding mitigating circumstances)

Please note all AS events are for those who are from a group underrepresented in the legal profession and this event focuses on those who have disabilities and/or long term health conditions.

BCLP lawyers will discuss the importance of diversity in the legal sector, not just for employees but for our clients too.

BCLP will once again be hosting their popular skills session for students studying at Durham University with an interest in a career in law. You will have the opportunity to meet with partners, associates and trainees who also completed their studies at Durham.

During this skills session, we will give you advice on the partner interview, as well as an opportunity to complete a mock negotiation using materials from previous assessment centres. We will give you feedback on your performance using current scoring criteria.

All students that have attended this skills session are also invited to join the BCLP team for some pizza and a drink at the famous 'Spags'.

Dissecting A Deal – 24 October 2019 – 18:30

The BCLP team will run its interactive workshop – dissecting a deal – where current trainees and associates, all of whom studied at Exeter, will walk you through some of BCLP’s most interesting and high-profile mandates and projects. The session will cover what the actual day to day activities of a trainee would be, and how that differs from the associate role. It will highlight the transferable skills you would learn as a trainee, and how the different parts of the BCLP business work together. After the workshop, there will be a chance to network with the BCLP team, giving a further opportunity for questions!

Signups are offered on a first come first serve basis, this opportunity is available to candidates at any stage of their degree studying any discipline. All candidates that attend this event must have a strong interest in pursuing a legal career.

Dissecting A Deal followed by Networking, 21 November 2019 – 16:00

Two alumni from Manchester University, and now associates in BCLP’s restructuring and insolvency team, will host a presentation at which they will run through a recent transaction that they were involved in to give a flavour of the peculiarities of that deal.

They will demystify the types of tasks that trainees get involved in on a day to day basis, as well as give students a better understanding of how transactional lawyers deal with unexpected incidents that arise at 1am the day before completion!

All students who attend the talk are invited to network with associates, trainees and future trainees in All Bar One in a relaxed informal setting.

This event is being hosted exclusively to students studying at the University of Manchester with an interest in a legal career.

We invite guests to network with us over food and drinks towards the end of the evening, where we welcome your questions on life at the firm and the work that we do. There will be representatives from the graduate recruitment team as well as trainees, associates and partners that have previously completed their studies at Oxford University.

This event is open to students at any stage of their studies at the University of Oxford, studying any degree discipline. We ask that attendees have a strong interest in pursuing a legal career with BCLP.

Innovation & The Law, 28 November 2019 – 18:00

During this event you will hear from Nick Pryor, Regional Innovation Solutions Director, and BCLP lawyers who completed their studies at UCL. The session will be interactive and will cover various aspects of legal tech and innovation, including the challenges that the legal sector are facing and how BCLP is responding as a market leader in this field.

BCLP Lawyers, who completed their studies at UCL, alongside members of the graduate recruitment team, are inviting 16 candidates from UCL to their offices to help them prepare for an assessment centre.

During this skills session, we will give you advice on the application process as well as an opportunity to complete a mock negotiation using materials from previous assessment centres. We will give you feedback on your performance using current scoring criteria.

We invite guests to network with us over food and drinks towards the end of the evening, where we welcome your questions on life at the firm and the work that we do.

This event is open to students who are eligible to apply for a vacation scheme this year, they are welcoming applications from students on law and non-law degree with a strong interest in completing a training contract with the firm.
