Career Kick Start
Our Career Kick Start work experience programme provides Year 12 students from disadvantaged backgrounds with an insight into a career in law.
The programme is structured as follows:
- Week One: Monday 28 July – Friday 1 August 2025. You’ll work at BCLP’s offices, gaining a valuable insight into our daily work, and taking part in skills development sessions to prepare you for a career in law.
- Week Two: Monday 4 August – Friday 8 August 2025 – You’ll visit a different organisation every day, learning how law firms interact with their clients across various sectors. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to build your network and expand your knowledge.
Applications will open on Thursday 6 February 2025 and close on Friday 21 March 2025.
London Legal Placement
Our industrial legal placement for second year LLB students offers the opportunity to spend your third academic year in our London office, gaining practical experience in one of our practice areas.
Starting in September, the internship will be non-rotational, affording students the opportunity to embed in one area of the business and develop high quality legal skills and knowledge. You’ll take part in the Trainee Solicitor induction programme and department-specific training sessions, and be supervised by a UK-qualified solicitor.
We’re committed to nurturing and retaining top talent from our legal placement programmes. At the end of the placement, you’ll take part in an assessment centre for a Training Contract.
You must achieve an average of 2.1 in your first and second year results to be considered and will be required, if selected, to transfer to the LLB Law in Practice.

Vacation schemes
Our two-week vacation schemes are an opportunity to gain valuable experience of a career in law at BCLP. We run two programmes every year at our London office – one in April and one in June – each for around 15 students.
You’ll hit the ground running as a member of the team, working on live projects and getting involved in everything from research and client meetings to court runs and presentations.
To further develop your knowledge, you’ll attend partner-led talks and workshops, have lunch with partners, and meet regularly with your supervisor.

Training Contract
Our training contract is renowned industry-wide for nurturing the next generation of top law talent. Your experience is structured as follows:
- Year one - You’ll complete a BCLP-specific LLM training course, preparing you for practice. Salary: £50,000.
- Year two - You’ll get hands-on experience on real client work across diverse sectors and industries. Salary: £55,000.
- Qualification - After qualifying, you’ll get up to six weeks leave to get some well-deserved rest.
- Promotion to associate - You’ll become an expert in your field, developing skills and networks that will accelerate your career.
- Promotion to senior associate - You’ll expand your leadership skills, progressing at your own pace as you climb the ranks to Associate Director and Partner.
The programme is rotational, giving you experience in a variety of roles across our business. Before each seat change, you’ll meet with your partner mentor and a member of our Talent Development team to discuss your ambitions. We work hard to match seat preferences with your goals and our commercial priorities.
Trainees receive in-depth department training at the beginning and during each seat, which will give you the legal know-how to succeed in their department. You can expect to have received 232 hours of training from our dedicated team by the time you’re a qualified lawyer.
As you approach qualification, we’ll meet with you several times to discuss your career direction, explore available options and understand your goals. We work hard to keep trainees in the firm, giving you the opportunity to work in an area that’s aligned with your interests and ambitions.

Sector-focused training programmes
Two new industry-specific training contracts will be available in the UK for real estate and financial services.
These new training contracts offer flexible seat options tailored to the chosen sector, with one compulsory seat required.
For the real estate sector route, the firm’s core real estate seat will be compulsory, with opportunities to experience other areas, such as planning and zoning, commercial construction, tax, investment management, real estate disputes and real estate finance.
Similarly, the financial services training contract will include the firm’s finance transactions practice as a compulsory seat. Trainees will also have the option to choose from roles in areas such as corporate transactions, energy, environment, and infrastructure, financial services disputes and investigations, tax, technology, commercial and government affairs and real estate finance
